ORCID – a persistent digital ID for researchers

orcid_128x128Have you heard about ORCID? http://orcid.org/

It’s a persistent digital identifier that distinguishes you from every other researcher and supports automated linkages between you and your professional activities ensuring that your work is recognized.

Once you have registered you can add your professional information to your ORCID record and link to your other identifiers (e.g. Scopus, ResearcherID or LinkedIn). This helps avoid the ambiguity often caused by having multiple entries for the same person because their name has been entered on a database or website in several ways.

You can include your ORCID identifier on your website, when you submit publications, or apply for grants.

According to their website:

ORCID is an open, non-profit, community-based effort to provide a registry of unique researcher identifiers and a transparent method of linking research activities and outputs to these identifiers.
